Can The Digital Switchover Help Save Money During the Credit Crisis?

The economy is sliding, and people across the globe are subsequently feeling the effects. So it makes sense that an increasing number of households in the UK and beyond are implementing a budget plan to save money. Many families are cutting out unnecessary costs such as holidays, while others are trying to economise with everyday costs such as utility and food-shopping bills. But can certain purchases actually help you save money during the credit crisis?

While spending money on new home items seems to defeat the purpose of economising during the credit crunch, certain smart buys can actually help save you money in the long run. Energy-efficient light bulbs pose one example. You’ll initially have to purchase all the light bulbs for your house; but once you replace all your regular light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs, you’ll save on your electricity bills.

Purchasing with an eye on special deals is another way to save money. For instance, if you know your family goes through a certain item quickly, and you notice that item on special offer at the store as a bulk-buy, you should make the purchase. Even though you’ll spend more money than usual up front, it’ll end up costing you less in the long run.

Likewise, satellite and digital TV can help save you money during the economic slump – particularly if you tend to spend a lot of money going out to movies. Think about how much you might spend on a movie ticket and dinner in a restaurant then compare that cost to a home-made meal and a movie on satellite television. The savings are apparent, and the financial benefits clear: satellite and digital television can save you a considerable amount on entertainment costs. And because digital TV offers more channels, better picture quality and interactive features compared to standard television, you won’t feel like you’re missing out on entertainment.

In addition to saving on entertainment costs, switching over to digital TV now will help save you on extra television equipment later. That’s because by 2012, TV in the UK will – region by region – go completely digital. That means all televisions will have to make a digital switchover in time for the digital switch in their area. Not switching over might mean you need to buy extra equipment – like a set-up box – if you want to use a TV after switchover, and that means extra costs later on.

So if you’re trying to save money during the economic crisis, get smart about your purchases. Make the satellite and digital switchover, and save on entertainment and equipment costs by enjoying a variety of channels on high-definition TV at home. It may prove to be one of the wisest purchases you can make during the credit slump.

Should the US customs treat foreign visitors with more respect & decency to ease the global financial crisis?

September 1st, 2010 by Bank Loan | 8 Comments | Filed in News

Question by a different kind of Angel: Should the US customs treat foreign visitors with more respect & decency to ease the global financial crisis?
I keep hearing, off every person I have spoke to, that for an outsider to visit America, they are treated badly by the customs officials. I am told that they are spoken to badly, roughly manhandled, locked in a cell for hours on end without access to basics such as water, and generally treated, without any valid reason, like criminals. This is regardless, I am told, of their nationality, or origin of travel. Apparently, American citizens do not experience this kind of treatment, nor do they witness it.

The reason for the question is this: Assuming of the information I have received is correct, that foreign citizens are treated badly, is this, and has it been, deterring people from travelling to the states? With less foreign visitors to the US, has the US economy suffered? Are bars closing because the visitors are not holidaying in the country? Are clothes sales down, because of lack of tourism, which also shuts down the clothes manufacturers?

We all know that the worlds economies are linked to that of the US dollar, through oil and such being sold by the dollar. So, as the US dollar has decreased in value, as a direct result of businesses closing, has this economic suffering then been transferred to the rest of the world?

Could the US economy be stabilized by treating tourists with respect and decency, making people wanting to go to America, and so spending money and increasing the job market?

Because looking at it, it seems if the US economy stabilized, the rest of the world would too, as their money systems are linked…

This is a valid query. Any and all thoughts are very welcome and appreciated.

Please, let me know what you think…
Bricklayer: could you mention to which airport you usually fly to please? some might be better than others…
Sarah: my sister is one of the people this has happened to. She was 33, with no criminal background whatsoever. She wasn’t even stopping in America, but she changed flights in Chicago, in transit, to Canada, and was banned from the US, for no reason whatsoever. She was however, travelling alone. She is also white.
Thank you everyone for the time you all took to answer… it seems, from what has been said here, that not everyone is treated badly ~ and that the US customs even smile…

Well, this applies to any country. Of course immigration officials should be polite to visitors, tho I don`t know if tourists would cease to visit the US just because of rude officials.
It would take more than that I think.
The main reasons why tourists would stop coming is because they haven`t a lot of money in this world recession. The same applies everywhere.

Politeness should be an individual thing – a matter of being proud to represent your country in a polite way.
I supposer anyone can be rude if that is how they are.

Famous Quotes on Banking

QUOTES ON BANKING:

“I sincerely believe … that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies, and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity under the name of funding is but swindling futurity on a large scale.” – Thomas Jefferson to John Taylor, 1816.

“Banks lend by creating credit. They create the means of payment out of nothing.” – Ralph M. Hawtrey, former Secretary of Treasury, England

“Money is the most important subject intellectual persons can investigate and reflect upon. It is so important that our present civilization may collapse unless it is widely understood and its defects remedied very soon.” — Robert H. Hemphill, former credit manager, Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta

“Bankers own the earth. Take it away from them, but leave them the power to create money and control credit, and with a flick of a pen they will create enough to buy it back.” — Sir Josiah Stamp, former President, Bank of England

“The Founding Fathers of this great land had no difficulty whatsoever understanding the agenda of bankers, and they frequently referred to them and their kind as, quote, “friends of paper money. They hated the Bank of England, in particular, and felt that even were we successful in winning our independence from England and King George, we could never truly be a nation of freemen, unless we had an honest money system. Through ignorance, but moreover, because of apathy, a small, but wealthy, clique of power brokers have robbed us of our Rights and Liberties, and we are being raped of our wealth. We are paying the price for the near-comatose levels of complacency by our parents, and only God knows what might become of our children, should we not work diligently to shake this country from its slumber! Many a nation has lost its freedom at the end of a gun barrel, but here in America, we just decided to hand it over voluntarily. Worse yet, we paid for the tyranny and usurpation out of our own pockets with “voluntary” tax contributions and the use of a debt-laden fiat currency!.” – Peter Kershaw, author of the 1994 booklet “Economic Solutions”

“The real truth of the matter is, and you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson. History depicts Andrew Jackson as the last truly honorable and incorruptible American president.” — President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, November 23, 1933 in a letter to Colonel Edward Mandell House

“The truly unique power of a central bank, after all, is the power to create money, and ultimately the power to create is the power to destroy.” — Pringle, Robert; and Deane, Marjorie: The Central Banks; Viking, 1994, page viii.

“When you or I write a check there must be sufficient funds in our account to cover that check, but when the Federal Reserve writes a check, it is creating money.” – Boston Federal Reserve Bank in a publication titled “Putting It Simply”

“Some people think the Federal Reserve Banks are U.S. government institutions. They are not … they are private credit monopolies which prey upon the people of the U.S. for the benefit of themselves and their foreign and domestic swindlers, and rich and predatory money lenders. The sack of the United States by the Fed is the greatest crime in history. Every effort has been made by the Fed to conceal its powers, but the truth is the Fed has usurped the government. It controls everything here and it controls all our foreign relations. It makes and breaks governments at will.” – Congressman Charles McFadden, Chairman, House Banking and Currency Committee,

June 10, 1932
“.. We conclude that the [Federal] Reserve Banks are not federal … but are independent, privately owned and locally controlled corporations … without day to day direction from the federal government..” – 9th Circuit Court in Lewis vs. United States, June 24, 1982

Have a good look around, but don’t buy until you are certain you need the item and have compared prices.

Do a yahoo or google search for “savings ideas”. Lots of good sites pop up.

Do you have any advice for saving money for a high school senior?

August 30th, 2010 by Bank Loan | 2 Comments | Filed in Bank

Question by Lauren: Do you have any advice for saving money for a high school senior?
I’m a senior in high school and I work part time and make about 50 to 100 dollars a week. I also get 500 dollars a month from my dad (weird family situation). And I only pay for my cell phone and lunch money at school which comes out to about 100 dollars a month (both of them combined). But I feel like im addicted to spending money. I go to wal-mart a lot or to other stores. I have plenty of money in my bank account for a girl my age but i know i should be saving more of it then spending. I’m entering college next year so I want to try to break these habits now. How can i get the self control not to shop when i have money but I want to save it for college and eventually a new (well, used) car. Please give me personal experiences, websites, advice, tips, anything!

Best answer:

Answer by wrf3k
What worked for me was everytime you get paid, take 50% of it and act like you never got it. So every week take 50$ and put it in a separate bank account, and never look at the ledger for that account. Before you know it you will have accumulated quite a bit of money.

What is the best bank to go with in northern california?

August 30th, 2010 by Bank Loan | 2 Comments | Filed in Bank

Question by Igottheanswers: What is the best bank to go with in northern california?
I don’t have much money? I put most of my money in 401K (about 25%) After everything I left with little spending money.

I want to know what is the best checking bank to go with?

I had open account with well fargo before. I hated that bank because of lots of overdraft fees. They would take over 7 days clear debit . If I made a mistake they would charge me lots of od fees and plus a $ 5 a day fee for od. Basically always 100+ fees.

I just switch to bofa last year. Now I hating them too. I recent had about 350 dollars left on my account. I went to the movies for about 14 bucks and withdrawl 20 bucks. That was on July 12, and 13 thursday and friday. I didn’t clear until monday. I had call to cancel a payment of 400 bucks they Electronic debit anyway. So, I was charged with 3 od instead of 1 bc they debit high to low.

Basically which banks do you know in norcal doesn’t debit high to low but on the day it was spend.

To many bank pratice that to collect more fees.

Best answer:

Answer by c q
B of A, easiest access to your money and low fees. More ATM’s then any other bank in California!

It does take time to post checks, and card transactions. So I do recommend keeping extra cash in any account at least $ 200.00 for a cushion. If that seem to be an issue try getting a prepaid visa card you fill it, you use it. If you don’t have money in the card cant use it, and NO fees cause it prepaid, that cool for teens and young adults. I do it for my kid, I re-charge the card (put money in) they charge the card (purchase). And they charge no fees for the use. You can pick them up at Walmart or any convenience store. Good luck.

Question by NOTONMYOWN: Holiday to Tokyo?
Hello I am planning a trip to Tokyo Japan Next year 2009 and am planning to stay at the Hotel Nikko Tokyo. This hotel and flight inc is about £2600 $ 5200 this is not a problen cos i am going for a month. But i need help with spending money. I am not sure how much the yen is worth in japan i.e how much for a can of coke of a taxi or a three course meal. I am thinking about taking £2000 $ 4000 spending money. My sister went to Malaysia 8 years ago and between two they spent £300 $ 600 for three weeks. Does any one know how much i would need for a week or is £500 a week ok works out at 108,551.21 JPY hit back.

Best answer:

Answer by Anthony m
It really depends on how much you want to do while you are there. I was stationed in Japan for 3 years, and just to go out to dinner and have 2, maybe 3 drinks, for two people cost about 10,000 yen, or about 100 dollars U.S. (if I am remembering the exchange rate correctly). And that wasn’t even at a super nice restaurant, and it wasn’t in Tokyo either, where it would probably cost more. I suspect that you won’t want to go out to dinner at a nice restaurant EVERY night, so I’m guessing that your plans for how much money you might need would be about right, but it wouldn’t hurt to save up another 100,000 Yen though, just in case something comes up or you find a Kimono or Samurai sword you can’t live without!

Home Loans for you

Home Loans for you

A home loan is basically a kind of loan, which is secured on your home. In other words, home loan uses the equity in your property as a security in case you are unable to repay the loan. Generally speaking, you can avail around £100,000 or more on the basis of equity available in your property.

Use of home loans

Home loans are used for a wide array of purposes. These include debt consolidation, mortgages, home improvements and a new business setup. Thanks to a dip in house prices, more and more people are spending money in enhancing the look of their house.

Loan to Value

In the last two or three months, the modifications in the home loan market have led to a plenty of financial institutions minimizing the loan amounts and the Loan to Value (LTV) ratio. Even the financial institutions that have retained high Loan to Value ratio have tightened their routine for home loan. Therefore, it has become real tough to get the home loan at low rate of interest.

If you are employed and have regular source of income then you will not face much problem in getting a home loan because financial institutions will not see you as a risk. But if that is not the case and you are self employed or working from the home, financial institutions will treat you as a risk and may not approve your home loan application.

If one financial institution does not approve your loan application, don’t feel disappointed, move on and contact another financial institution. As the home loan market is quite competitive in nature, there is a good chance that someone will approve your loan application.

I think the result turned out rather well, but sorry for the poor quality in some parts. – Story/Spoiler: The family Ingalls, consisting of Charles, his wife Caroline and his three daughters Mary the oldest, Laura, and little Carrie, decide to travel to the town of Colorado Springs and perhaps, if the town is to their liking, settle down. When the Ingalls reach the new town, they are warmly greeted by the local townspeople. Charles is slightly surprised, when Dr. Quinn introduces herself, since he has not really heard of a lady doctor before and definitely never met one, but he has nothing against it and just repeats her name out of astonishment. While Laura Ingalls befriends Brian Cooper, Charles and Caroline receive a loan offer from the banker Preston Lodge, which they accept. Having decided to stay in Colorado Springs, the Ingalls explore town and Mary and Laura attend school. After a certain time in Colorado Springs, Charles and his family decides to move on, and they peacefully leave town. – Audio dialog in the video: Charles: Everybody all set back

How to Save on Electricity

It seems that every winter the cost of electricity goes up, this is true rather you live in the northern colder areas or the southern warmer areas. No matter where you live winter electricity rates kick in and you face higher than normal electric bills. This can really put a damper on your spending money, you may even find that you do not have the money for other bills as a result.

Therefore, what you really need to be doing is saving money on your electric. You may not believe it but some simple steps, which you may not have ever thought of before, can save you literally hundreds or even thousands of dollars. We will provide you with some electricity saving tips. For instance, did you know that just by using space heaters in specific room, instead of using your central heating system, you can save more than ,000 each year in electricity?

With that being said, here are some great electricity saving tips that could help you dramatically reduce the amount you pay each year.

Take Care Of The Bigger Problems

There is no use in worrying about the little things such as using the microwave, it is more important to put your focus on the bigger items such as electric heating, dryers, water heaters, refrigerators, and your other big ticket items. Some extremely simple steps, which really do not cost you a great deal of money to start with, can save you a great deal of money on your electric bill.

For example, by eliminating the use of your dryer and using laundry racks or clothesline, which by the way may only cost you about , can save you more than 0 each year in electricity. Other simple things like using fluorescent light bulbs instead of regular ones can save you as much as per year. Just making sure your computer is “sleeping” while not in use can save you almost per year.

Believe it or not these seemingly small acts can save you big money. For instance, if you wash your clothing in cold water you may save as much as 0 a year, if you need warm water, you can save over a year. Furthermore, if it is affordable, updating your older appliances can also save you money on electricity.

Getting a newer refrigerator can save money, as well as an energy efficient stove, washer, dryer, heating element, or water heater. Save money on electric this winter and enjoy the extra money in other areas of life.
