Money saving tips and simple recipes for vegetable stir fry?

Question by Clever Nickname: Money saving tips and simple recipes for vegetable stir fry?
It seems every time I ask for help cooking or recipes people rattle off like 40 things I’ll need to buy. Which isn’t cost-effective. And complicated.

So I’m looking for money-saving tips and simple recipes for stir fry. Vegan or meat, but I’m leaning towards chicken or tofu since it tastes good grilled.

Best answer:

Answer by xandera
I make a really simple stir fry…. I usually use carrots and broccoli, sometimes bean sprouts or other veggies too, so just pick your favorites.

I just cook my rice and sautee or steam my veggies and then mix it all together in a frying pan and flavor it with soy sauce and whatever seasonings I have on hand. If you are using tofu you just press the tofu to get the water out and then soak it in the soy sauce/spice mixture first so it soaks up the flavor.

What do you think? Answer below!

What’s your best money saving tips?

Question by Michelle M: What’s your best money saving tips?
As a SAHM and just in general a frugal person, I am always looking for tips to save money. I will share a few of mine too. Here are my favorite money saving tips

Use a crock pot, it takes less money to run than your oves, saves tons of time, food turns out great, and it doesn’t heat the house.

Use a Toaster oven. When I’m not cooking in the crock pot I’m cooking in my toaster oven. I bought one big enough to bake pies, bread, cake in square cake pan, cookies, chicken, steaks, etc….. I bought a regular toaster for making toast. I feel making toast in a large toaster oven is a waste of electricity.

Buy used when possible. I bought my sons loft bed for $ 150 the same exact bed sales for $ 1000 at our local kids furniture store. I bought his power wheels 2 seater jeep for $ 30. and I bought a Quadra Fire gas insert for $ 250, we were looking at the same one at a local store for $ 2500. These are just a few bargains I have found.

Eco-Saving Money Tips: Save On Your Electric Bill

Eco-Saving Money Tips: Save On Your Electric Bill

You’re trying to live a greener lifestyle. But with summer just around the corner, you’re probably steeling yourself against the spiking electric bill that seems inevitable as the heat increases. Air conditioners begin cranking up by the millions in an effort to keep things cool. When you toss in electrical appliances like televisions, stereos, computers, and all the other electronic goodies that get used everyday, then it’s not long before your monthly Bill grows to the size of a William.

Here are some money saving tips to help you save on your electric bill. You’ll not only live more green, but you’ll save some as well:

1. Check that your cooling system (and, come winter, your heating system too) are working at maximum efficiency. Get them inspected annually by a reputable maintenance company. Be sure to change the filters on both your air conditioner and furnace every month. You will not only save on your electric bill by doing this, but you will be creating healthier air in your home, which is a big boon to those who suffer from allergies and asthma.

2. Closing the blinds and drapes on the side of your home that gets the most sun will go a long way toward cooling the interior when the outside temperatures are soaring. You may also consider covering your glass panes with window film, as this will reduce the radiant heat and still give you a unobstructed view to the exterior. If you haven’t already, use a light colored paint on your house and install awnings to further cut down on the heat inside.

3. If you plan to be absent from your home for a short period, it’s best to simply turn off your air conditioner. If you live in a hot, desert-type environment, you can at least turn the thermostat a little higher than would be normal for optimum comfort and adjust it back down upon your return. If you live in a cold climate, reverse this by lowering your thermostat during the winter months. You’ll save on your electric bill all year ’round.

4. Place any window air conditioners you may use in windows near the center of your house and located on the shadiest side. You want your air conditioner to draw upon the coolest air it can find.

5. Plant shrubs and trees around your house to provide shade, making sure that any shrubs growing near your air conditioning units are properly trimmed to allow for adequate air flow.

6. As you may have heard, incandescent light bulbs use approximately 10 times the power of fluorescent. Switching the kind of bulbs you use will show a significant savings in the long run.

7. When planning your meals, choose to cook them in the microwave, if possible. Electric stoves not only use 90 percent more energy than a microwave, but add noticeably to the amount of heat already in your house, which then requires that much more electricity to drive out.

8. When shopping for computers, scanners, printers and other such equipment, keep an eye out for those that feature automatic “sleep modes” or turn off when not in use. What you save on your electric bill at the end of the year will help you afford better quality equipment up front.

9. Even when you’ve turned off a piece of electrical equipment, it may still be sucking up electricity. Unplug them when going away for vacations or any extended periods of time. Plug things like electric razors, hair dryers, curling irons and so on into power strips so that they can be easily switched off when they’re not needed.

10. During blackouts or brownouts, unplug or turn off as many appliances as possible. Lightening the power load lowers the risk of blowing out a transformer when everybody’s power comes back on at once.

11. Major appliances older than 10 years should be replaced, as they cost more to run than newer ones. More modern appliances are required to conform to “Energy Star” standards of efficiency and are ten to twenty percent less expensive to run, helping you save on your electric bill even with appliances that have to run 24/7.

Any one of these ideas will help you keep your electric bills at a minimum. Put them all into effect, and the savings will be even greater. You’ll have the satisfaction of contributing to a greener environment while adding to the green in your wallet, too!

Mother Nature is on the verge of losing her temper completely, and frankly, I don’t blame her. How much abuse would you tolerate before either breaking down or lashing back? We’ve been offered a beautiful place to stay, with the fridge stocked, endless entertainment possibilities, and great views. So what do we do? Plug up the toilets, smear feces on the walls, rip up the carpets, murder the neighbors, torch the yard, and beat our hostess nearly to death. Not only is this deeply disrespectful, it’s stupid — it’s not like we have anywhere else to go.

But we haven’t gasped our last, not yet. We still have a chance to pull this out of the fire, if we’re all willing to pull together and face facts. Money Saving Tips

People are always trying to save money, especially with today’s economy. No matter what your reason for saving, through this e-book, you will discover ways never considered.

The price of everything has gone up, requiring people to be more conscientious about money. The problem is that by the time the mortgage, car, utilities, and credit cards are paid, there is little money to put aside. Saving money is not that hard, just a matter of learning all the different options and being creative.

In addition to the obvious of putting money into a retirement fund or savings account, there are hundreds of ways to save money. Although some ways of saving may not seem like much, once you add them up at the end of the year, you will see how substantial the savings really are. Keep in mind that saving is more than a single lump sum of money put aside. Saving is something found in your everyday life by the way you live and the choices you make.

Rome was not built in a day and neither will your bank account be. Each penny saved is one more penny than before. If you have the ability to save big, that is great. However, most people are not in that position, which is why this e-book will show you how little savings can add up quickly.

Be encouraged that it is never too late to start saving, regardless of your age. Set your mind that now is the time to start building your future.

1. Holiday Gift Giving

This tip is especially helpful for large families. Although it is fun buying for and receiving from everyone, it can be very expensive. Make an agreement with your family that you will continue to buy for the children but that the adults will go with a name exchange. This way the children are not disappointed and you can spend a little more on one or two people rather than spreading your money thin. For the members that you did not pick to exchange with, bake a loaf of their favorite homemade bread or cookies.

2. Clearance

Always head straight for the clearance rack where you can find amazing bargains. Sometimes you may have to dig a little to find the right item but the savings will be well-worth your time. Most clearance racks offer variety, current trends, and great value. For example, Bed, Bath & Beyond has a clearance section where you can find all kinds of wonderful household items for a fraction of the original cost.

3. Thrift / Surplus Stores

Unfortunately, thrift and surplus stores have been given a bad rap. Many of these stores are filled with hundreds of top quality items. Name brand merchandise is easy to find but just like clearance racks, it takes some time to find. Find a thrift or surplus store close to where you live and then plan spending some time to find those outstanding bargains. One woman in Kansas City, Missouri located such a store about 20 minutes from her home. After shopping through every isle over the period of two hours, she walked out of the store with eight huge garbage bags filled to the brim with designer clothes for her and her children, many with the original tags still attached. She even found a couple of Liz Claiborne suits for herself at .99 each and a Dooney & Burke purse normally valued at 5 for .95. Her children had an entire season of school clothes and best of all, she paid less than 0.

4. Wrapping Paper and Bows

Create your own wrapping paper, which is not only unique, but also fun. Use plain brown grocery bags and craft-like paints to make your design. After wrapping the gift, let your creative juices flow. For example, using black and yellow craft paint, create a miniature road. Then dipping toy truck tires into red paint roll them along the paper making tire tracks. You can then draw free hand a stop sign, yield sign, or stop light. Next, using a hot glue gun, glue a couple of the miniature trucks to the paper. This is perfect for a young boy. He will be just as thrilled with the wrapping as the actual gift. For a girl, you can simply create miniature bows from existing fabric or lace and glue them on brown paper then free hand draw colorful flowers. Just use your creativity and look around for items you already have on hand to use.

5. Reuse

When you shop, look for items that can be reused. Rechargeable batteries are a perfect example. Even though the initial purchase may be more than non-rechargeable batteries, there is a definite savings over a long period. Another option would be to purchase a nice artificial Christmas tree. Many of the current artificial trees look amazingly real and with the right lights and ornaments, you can change the look from year to year.

Q&A: Do you have any money saving tips for new parents?

August 31st, 2010 by Bank Loan | 20 Comments | Filed in Bank

Question by luckytacs: Do you have any money saving tips for new parents?
My husband and I are young and own our business – we get some money, but it hasn’t really taken off yet. Our baby is due in the spring, and while we’re both very excited, we know it’ll be tight for a while. Do you have any money saving tips for new parents – cheap but good brands, that kind of thing? Anything at all would be helpful – even stuff that doesn’t necessarily relate directly to being a parent (insurance, cars, etc.)
Thanks!

Question by cornfedbarbie: Any tips on saving money during a major move?
We are preparing to move 200 miles away in a few weeks, but worried about being strapped with all the expenses. We just had to pay rent on our current house, we have to put down deposit, pet deposit, and first month’s rent on the new place, new utility deposits, food, cleaning supplies, etc., not to mention gas being so high these days. Plus, all of our bills are due at the current location. We are figuring it will take about 4 trips, towing a loaded trailer to get all of our belongings. Any money saving tips would be greatly appreciated.

Try to get as many family and friends that are willing to help you. It’s quite a drive, but maybe you could have them stay overnight in your house, and then cook dinner for them all? I know whenever my parents have family help out, they really appreciate it if my mom cooks dinner for everyone.
