Answer by gameboyxp20
The Forex isn't really expanding or contracting. It just is.

In order for one currency to gain one loses. I have heard of some people making a living trading the forex. I would start part time.

1) Read lots of books, articles, and websites on the subject. http://www.iitm.com will show you how.

2) Open a practice account under a fake name and a temportary email (so if you lose everything, you can start again).

3) Once you feel you are upto it, fund an account with $ 1,000 – $ 3,000 (200K – 750K trading funds) and start trading. Have goals.

4) When you start making a lot of money work hard, overtime, to fund your account fully and then transition out of your job.

Find your financial freedom number, learn and plan, make sure you have what it takes, and then go for it.

Good Luck.

Best answer:

Answer by Ben O
Maybe, but you need to have good risk management skills because successful strategies tend to become less useful over time.

Sometimes people can make a living speculating for a year or two then lose all their capital in a short time.

Question by Eric F: Day Trading Forex possible to make a living?
Hey,

Are there people in the world who day trade forex for a living? I've read so many articles bashing day trading as gambling and impossible to make money, but I also read some forex trader interview who just trade a few hours a day and make a good living. Is it true?
Anyone has experience?

Sydney Ranked 23rd in International Cost of Living Comparison

Sydney is the 23rd most expensive city in the world for expatriates to live in according to the findings of an international cost of living comparison of 228 international locations, conducted by the international relocation calculator, Xpatulator.com.

The Xpatulator.com international cost of living comparison uses the prices of goods and services that expatriates spend their salaries on in each location, and calculates cost of living indexes (COLI) for 13 different basket groups using New York as the base (i.e. New York is equal to 100).

The most expensive city in the world for expatriates is London with an overall COLI of 126.6. At the other end of the rankings, the least expensive city (for expatriates to live in) is Harare with an overall COLI of 16.4. This means that on average, goods and services that cost an expatriate US0 in New York would cost US6.6 in London, compared to just US.4 in Harare, and US101.73 in Sydney.

How Sydney Compares

For each aspect of cost of living, Sydney is ranked by Xpatulator.com as follows (Out of 228 international locations, ranked from highest cost of living to lowest cost of living):

•Alcohol & Tobacco (Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Products): 29th

•Clothing (Clothing and Footwear Products): 116th

•Communication (Telephone, Internet, and Mobile Communication): 150th

•Education (Creche, Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Fees): 13th

•Furniture and Appliances (Furniture, Household Equipment and Household Appliances): 94th

•Groceries (Food, Non-Alcoholic Beverages and Cleaning Material): 44th

•Healthcare (General Healthcare, Medical and Medical Insurance): 11th

•Household (Rent, Mortgage, Water, Electricity, Household Gas, Household Fuels, Local Rates and Residential Taxes): 33rd

•Miscellaneous (Stationary, Linen, General Goods and Services): 112th

•Personal Care (Personal Care Products and Services): 7th

•Recreation & Culture (Books, Cinema, DVD, Sports Goods etc): 29th

•Restaurants Meals Out and Hotels: 24th

•Transport (Public Transport, Vehicle Costs, Vehicle Fuel, Vehicle Insurance and Vehicle Maintenance): 41st

Relative to other parts of the world Sydney is relatively expense for personal care products and services, however Sydney has relatively cheap telephone, internet, and mobile phone communication.

Expatriate Pay Approaches

Cost of living information is used by organisations to establish salary levels for expatriates undertaking international assignments. How the cost of living information is used depends on the pay methodology adopted by the organisation. There are 3 mainstream approaches to establishing salary levels for international assignments, the salary build-up approach, the salary purchasing power approach, and the cost of living allowance approach.

Salary Build-Up Approach

The build-up approach uses the expatriate’s home salary as the starting point and then builds up the salary package for an international assignment. Typical elements added to the salary are for cost of living differences, hardship differences and exchange rate. Hardship is the relative difference in the quality of living a person and their family are likely to experience.

For example a person earning AUD0 000 in Sydney taking up an assignment in London would have the following build-up:

Base Salary AUD0 000 X COLI X Hardship Premium X Exchange Rate = Assignment Package in UK Pounds.

Using Xpatulator.com, a person earning AUD0 000 in Sydney, would earn an assignment package of UK Pounds £58 447.

Salary Purchasing Power Approach

The Salary purchasing power approach seeks to achieve parity between international locations. What would be the equivalent of a salary in Sydney in other places in the world in terms of purchasing power? We compared purchasing power by comparing salary levels adjusted for cost of living differences, and relative hardship using Xpatulator.com.

A salary of USD 000 in Sydney Australia is equivalent to:

•USD 031 in Beijing

•USD 578 in Dubai

•USD 238 in London

•USD 142 in New Delhi

•USD 514 in Paris France

This means that an organisation with a head office in Sydney, and international offices in each of the above locations would pay a position that is paid USD 000 in Sydney, USD 238 in London and USD 031 in Beijing in order to achieve the same salary purchasing power in each location.

Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) Approach

Organisations that make use of Cost of Living Allowances (COLA) use cost of living information to determine how much COLA to pay for international assignments. A COLA is an allowance paid to an expatriate to ensure that they are compensated where the cost of living is higher than their home country. Where the cost of living is lower, most organisations do not adjust the salary downwards, they would simply not pay a COLA in such cases. Using the example of a person earning US 000 in Sydney sent on an international assignment to London, they would be paid a COLA as follows:

USD 238 in London less USD 000 in Sydney = USD 238 COLA in London

The COLA is paid in addition to the individual’s current salary, for the duration of the international assignment, and is typically reviewed on an annual basis, or when the COLI changes by more than 10%.

Steven McManus has been an Information and Reward Consultant to over 100 organisations for over a decade. Steven runs the most comprehensive global relocation calculator available, an internet service that is used primarily to calculate expatriate salary levels for global assignments, which can be found at http://www.xpatulator.com. This site includes free location overviews, cost of living, and hardship rankings for 228 global cities.

Investing Toward A Fine Living

When it comes to making investments or plotting out an investment strategy, many people feel as if they are in a rowboat holding only one oar and stuck in the middle of an ocean. Spinning in circles without a direction is not a good place to be. But without a solid investment strategy in place, it could happen. The first step toward reaching the shores of your Financial Freedom Island is to know how you are going to get there. Developing a diversified investment plan is a great way to achieve your financial goals. Investing in mutual funds offers the opportunity to achieve specific goals and to tidily manage your portfolio.

If you are looking for an easy way to diversify your investment strategy without diving directly into the deep end of the financial know how pool, mutual funds are definitely an option worth investigating. A mutual fund is a pool of individuals money that is invested to satisfy the investment objectives of the group by the funds portfolio manager. Mutual funds are diverse, meaning that mutual funds are generally comprised of securities from a number of sources, such as stocks, bonds, and cash investments. The diversification of the monies makes it less likely that losses from one company or industry will have a significant negative impact to a mutual funds overall performance. There are noteworthy advantages to investing in mutual funds.

Portfolio managers or Investment advisers professionally manage mutual funds on a full time basis. It is their job to stay abreast with all factors that affect the marketplace. Private investors would have to devote substantial time to achieve similarly effective management. Mutual funds come in a wide variety of available options. Investors can choose mutual funds with very low risks regarding their principal investment. Conversely, investors may opt to take greater risks with their investments in pursuit of higher returns. Investing in mutual funds allows investors to maintain conservative, moderate, or aggressive portfolios or all three.

Mutual funds also offer a great amount of convenience to investors. Mutual funds are easy to buy or sell; easy to transfer from one fund to another; and you can set up automatic investments to a mutual fund account directly from your bank account. Most companies that manage mutual funds offer extensive record keeping services so investors can easily track their funds performance. Determining your specific needs is the first step in selecting which type of mutual fund would best suits your investment needs. People generally invest in mutual funds for either long term growth, high current income, or to maintain stability of their investment.

Keep in mind that mutual funds are not guaranteed or insured by the FDIC or any other government agency. So, it is vital that you make a well informed decision before committing to a purchase.

Best answer:

Answer by traveler
Quite different from your old question. US$ 2500/month is manageable. The largest expense is the apartment which if you stay the formerly mentioned 6 months would be about $ 1000/month for 6-month lease. The remaining $ 1500/month would provide food and nightlife. Food is fairly cheap if you go to the buffets that charge by the kilo. With an apartment, you can always eat in/cook some meals and stock the refrigerator with beer/drinks.

I live in a small, nice, convenient apartment but need a $ 7,500 loan to pay semester rent. No utilities.

I don't want a job cause I am graduating in May, but have no debt, no prior student loans.

Now, with the $ 7,500 loan, should I pay for the rent, should I buy or rent (with option to buy) a house, or last, should I make some kind of other investment with the money that will generate more money.

I really need some advice on the situation because I would like to take on an entrenprenural endeavor but I also want to see the money work for me since it is my first and only loan or debt?.!?!?!?!

Answer by Bob D
You will have a very difficult time getting a mortgage because you do not have any income. And if this is your first loan or line of credit, your credit score will be low so you really wont get a loan. Put it into a set of certificate of deposits. Esp with a 6 month type duration and spread the money over sx months. That way you will have a reserve that comes due each month. You might want to try to get a credit card (secured if need be) so you can start est credit lines and score
