Q&A: How Dow Jones Index effect GBP/USD?

September 1st, 2010 by Bank Loan | 1 Comment | Filed in Forex

Question by aishah a: How Dow Jones Index effect GBP/USD?
I notice GBP/USD normally moves together with DJI but sometimes it will contradict. Why is it so? thank you.

Best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
It’s really not a question of the DOW. Keep in mind everything is “relative” when it comes to currency pairs. Right now….. everyone is hurting… The DOW is down…. The FTSE is down. But…. the perception is that the USD is more of a ‘safe haven” then the GBP.

What do you think? Answer below!

why does usd effect ftse?

How to Save Big On Gas with Your Car or Truck

How to Save Big On Gas with Your Car or Truck

It shouldn’t be hard to save gas with your car or truck. There are some obvious things, and some ideas that sounds crazy but straight up work. Here are some tips on how to save gas without buying some funky product that’s going to ruin your car:

First, maintain your tire pressure. Check the pressure with a gauge, and then compare it to the suggested level (which should be on the inside of your driver door). This is very well known, but even knowing it, most people don’t do it. A few PSI (don’t go over the limit!) can easily save you 5-10 dollars weekly depending on what you’re running now.

Get all the junk out of your car! Ever think about how race cars don’t have air conditioning systems? Every single pound counts. Even a few pounds can make a huge difference on your mileage and what you spend every week. One other way to take this further is to only fill up to half tank every time. A gallon of gas weighs in at roughly 8 pounds. A half tank of gas can save you about 50 pounds or more, which translates into noticable fuel savings.

Another big one most people avoid is changing your air filter. You can do this in 5 minutes with easy online instructions, and it can save you big. A dirty air filter restricts the flow of vital air to your engine, which will mess with your MPG bigtime. Don’t avoid doing this any longer, you can learn how in minutes online.

One very dangerous technique (to be used at your own caution) is drafting trucks. If you drive behind semi-trucks on a freeway, you can save a shocking amount on fuel. Some people report 20-30% or more. Obviously, paying attention is crucial here.

One word of caution: Avoid fuel saving gimmicks and products. If there was an easy add-on to save gas, every car would already have it installed. Use some common sense.

Question by Tri: Thinking about opening a self-directed Roth IRA through Bank of America. Any suggestions on good investments?
Does anyone currently have this type of account through Bank of America? If so, what are some good fund families to invest in?

Best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
WOW…… there is no answer for “you”.

You need to develop an “asset allocation” model for yourself based on your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon.
“Asset Allocation” is the best predictor for portfolio success…. (much more than picking the top fund or funds, over the long haul).

Read some books on Mutual Funds. Start with the “Mutual Funds For Dummy’s”. Paying $ 160 a year to Morningstar is not a bad idea also (premium service).

Bank Of America is “OK” for Mutual Funds… but a better broker would be Schwab or Fidelity” Both have a tools to help you select funds. I think Schwab is the best of the group (for this).

One more warning. DON’T CHASE MUTUAL FUND PERFORMANCE. The very Hot fund the last couple of years may be the worst for the next few years. That’s why an “asset allocation” will give you a balanced, broad exposure.

Auto Loans Can Be Easy, Follow These Steps

There is not a whole lot in this world that is more exciting than getting keys to a brand new car! The hard part comes when it’s time to actually pay for it! So, unless you are a very rich celebrity who has enough cash to pay for it in full, you will most likely have to get an auto loan from somewhere. If you follow the following six keys to getting a good deal on an auto loan, you can be confident that you got a great deal when everything is said and done.

The first key to making sure you get a great auto loan, is managing your credit. One of the very first things that you need to do before you apply for a car loan, is to check your current credit score. If you live in the United States, you are entitled to one free credit report each year from each of the three major bureaus, so take advantage of this. After you’ve read your credit score, see if there is anything you can take care of, or fix before applying for your loan. If you have an excellent credit score, there is a much better change that you’ll get approved to buy the vehicle you really want.

The second key to making sure you get a great auto loan, is knowing what sort of a budget that you have to work with. This mainly has to do with getting pre approved by the bank. Pre qualifying tells you how much you are allowed to get potentially, but being pre approved means you already have a bank willing to give you the money you need.

People who are good at budgeting already know this, so if it seems like common sense to you, that’s a good sign that you have your head on straight. Take a look at your budget, and determine how much you’d like to spend each month on your car loan. Remember to not strap yourself.

The third thing you should do is look at the big picture. You’re going to want to take into account how much the loan will cost in the long run. Make sure that you get a low interest rate, because you could end up spending as much as 50% more than the car actually cost if you’re not careful. Go with the bank that will give you the cheapest interest rate, this is probably the most important part of all.

Fourthly, make sure that you factor in your new insurance plan. In most states, it’s illegal to own a vehicle if you do not have car insurance. So knowing before hand that you will have to buy some, remember to put that into your budget. Having good insurance can help you in getting a loan. Life insurance and health insurance play into this too. If you have them, it shows the lender that if an emergency happens you won’t be piled under a ton of debt, and you’ll still be able to pay them each month.

Lastly, remember to shop around. All auto loans are not created equally, so the wisest thing to do would be to shop around for 5-10 different options for you to choose from. An unfair auto loan can be the straw the breaks the budget’s back if you’re not careful, so remember to look for the above factors, and use them in your decision making when it comes time to get that new vehicle.

How does an automated forex trading system work?

Question by Cel Robison: How does an automated forex trading system work?
Might be nice if someone can simplify how it works. I am also looking for an automated forex trading system too.

Best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
You’re chasing a dream that will not work for you… At least right now.

FX automated trading systems (EA’s or robots)…… only work for the highly successful trader whose knowledge of Technical Analysis is matched by years of trading money management skills.

If that’s not you…. forget it.

(It’s hard to understand how some people believe that if they buy a “system” their lives will turn around & they’ll be rich very quickly…….. that’s a dream… it’s not the real world)……..

Here’s the number one thing you need for good results from a FX robot;
A trader with years of successful FX Trading experience, especially talented in trading money management. Good skills in Technical Analysis would also be needed.

Without the years (3-5) of very successful trading experience….. you will not profit from the best Forex robots out there. A novice will see their portfolio destroyed!

Question by tmat6306: Does anyone know of a good website that offers free forex alerts&signals?

Best answer:

Answer by Common Sense
If you pay for Forex signals or get them for free…. You’re going to lose money.

There are no special “easy” ways to make money in FX. I know you’re not going to believe me now. but as things get bad…. remember this;

FX can be very rewarding for the 5% of people that can make it work. At least 50%of the effort is in Money Management. Succesul traders have their own techniques that work for them. You’ll have to do the same. Resist the desire to “take a shot”.

Good trading………………………
